Typography Poster: Festival

In the Typography Festival Poster project, the goal was to create a poster only utilizing typography. I chose a Winter Solstice festival from Fairbanks, AK. I played with the idea of creating the Aurora Borealis or a footprint in the snow. I chose the snow print to challenge myself and to not go with the most obvious and done option. I wanted the title to look like it was pressed into the snow with the schedule looking like a boot print. I put a snow texture image in the back and lower the opacity way down to not overload the design. I created a grid that put all my information in the bottom left. In the top right, I put the schedule of events breaking the grid to emphasis it from the body copy. I did not use much color, only some blue greys, to not take away from the intention of the design being “on the ground”.

Original

I struggled the most with getting my title manipulation to look pressed into the snow, so that was what I focused the most attention on. I also adjusted my alignments with making everything aligned on the right and making sure the date and location lined up with the grid.
