Magazine Spread Reboot

In the Magazine Spread Reboot project, the goal was creating a two-page spread for an article. The article was given randomly, and I received a story about a hiking trail across Texas. When finding inspiration for my mood board, I found that I liked articles that only had two colors, and the images were monochromatic. I also enjoyed non-traditional layouts. I edited my two photos to be monochrome red or blue. The color choice came from the Texas flag being red, white, and blue. All the text and details are the blue of Gandy’s photo. Going across the spread is the path of the hiking trail with major cities/landmarks along the route. I put the text in the middle of the spread going across the fold in a white square to be able to showcase the landscape of the photo and to frame the copy. I broke the grid with placing my subtitle and Gandy photo half on the white square to contrast it better with the background.
