Intaglio Print

In the Intaglio project, the goal was creating a print that tells a story. I had recently rediscovered the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe and was inspired. I could not get the poem out of my head, so I started drawing a raven saying “nevermore” and had my story. I then added a full moon behind the raven to showcase night/darkness. With the aquatint I kept the moon white, made the raven light grey, and the sky almost black. I wanted the illusion of the bird being back light by the moon, making it somewhat glow. I titled the piece, “Lenore” after the woman who the story is about.

Progress Work

“Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;

And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.

    Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow

    From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—

For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—

            Nameless here for evermore.”
